Objective: To clarify and improve a cranial cruciate ligament (CrCL) deficient stifle stabilization technique using a semitendinosus tendon (ST) autograft fixed with an interference fit screw (IFS) in a closed-joint trauma lapine osteoarthritis (OA) model.

Study design: Experimental OA model.

Animals: Forty-one Flemish Giant rabbits.

Authors: Jaemin Jeong, Seong Mok Jeong, Stanley E Kim, Daniel D Lewis, Haebeom Lee

Objective: To evaluate the short- and mid-term effects of tibial tuberosity advancement (TTA) and tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO) on subsequent meniscal tears.

Study design: Experimental in vivo study.

Animals: Purpose-bred beagle dogs (n = 15).

Authors: Karolina S Engdahl, Gudrun S Boge, Annika F Bergström, Elena R Moldal, Odd V Höglund

Objective: To analyze the effect of surgical technique and other risk factors on severe postoperative complications in dogs with cranial cruciate ligament disease (CCLD).

Authors: Daniel J Duffy, Yi-Jen Chang, Lewis Gaffney, Matthew B Fisher, George E Moore

Objective: To evaluate the effect of a continuous locking novel epitendinous suture (nES) pattern with and without a core locking-loop (LL) suture on the biomechanical properties of ex vivo canine superficial digital flexor tendon (SDFT) tenorrhaphy constructs.

Sample: 54 cadaveric forelimb SDFTs from 27 musculoskeletally normal adult dogs.

Authors: Keiichi Kuroki, Ned Williams, James L Cook

Objective: To investigate histopathological features of synovium from dogs with cranial cruciate ligament disease (CCLD) to seek mechanisms of osteoarthritis (OA) associated with CCLD.

Study design: Retrospective, single-institution case series.

Animals: Thirty client-owned dogs.

Authors: Chiara P Curcillo, Daniel J Duffy, Yi-Jen Chang, George E Moore

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of increasing the number of suture strands traversing the transection site, level of suture purchase and depth of suture penetrance on the biomechanical properties of repaired gastrocnemius tendons.

Authors: Selena Tinga, Stanley E Kim, Scott A Banks, Stephen C Jones, Brian H Park, Sara M Chapman, Antonio Pozzi, Daniel D Lewis

Objective: To quantify 3-D femorotibial joint kinematics during ambulation in dogs with cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) rupture treated with lateral fabellotibial suture stabilization (LFTS).

Animals: 9 adult dogs (body weight, 15 to 35 kg [33 to 77 lb]) with unilateral complete CCL rupture.

Estrogen deficiency has been shown to negatively influence rotator cuff tendon healing. Therefore, the addition of an estrogen-like-compound (ELC) in a non-estrogen deficient animal may improve the quality of a rotator cuff repair.

Objectives: (1) To report the clinical features of luxation of the superficial digital flexor tendon in dogs and (2) to report the outcome and complications of a novel surgical technique where postoperative immobilisation was not used.

Authors: Dirsko J F von Pfeil, Ezra J Steinberg, David Dycus

Case description: A 7.5-year-old 37.8-kg (83.2-lb) sexually intact male German Shepherd Dog (dog 1) and a 2.6-year-old 28.2-kg (62.0-lb) sexually intact male Dutch Shepherd (dog 2), both apprehension police dogs, were admitted for evaluation of left and right thoracic limb lameness, respectively.
